The Radius Leadership Team

Matthew Parsons, Managing Director

Matthew is the Managing Director and founder of Radius Business. Since 2011 Matthew has evolved Radius from an LGBT business network to the unique company it is today. He is the 2013 winner of the National Diversity Awards’ LGBT Entrepreneur of the Year.

I have always been passionate about people and the benefits of networking and celebrating diversity. Growing up as a gay man, and addressing the challenges of dyslexia and ADHD, I understand how it feels to be perceived as different. I launched Radius as I was keen to demonstrate to the business community that difference can be harnessed to create more effective and innovative organisations.

I could not be more proud of how the business has evolved, and the inspirational team of colleagues and clients that I work with.

I am excited about the future of Radius, and look forward to continuing our journey with the organisations we support.”

Lord Chris Smith, Chairman

Lord Chris Smith, joined Radius in 2014 as chairman. He is Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge, former Secretary of State for Culture and former chairman of the Environment Agency

“The Radius Employee Network Leadership Programme and supporting services are leading the way in the evolution of employee networks and the development of their leaders to create real impact for the businesses they support.

A genuine innovation in the industry, this business is truly unique, helping organisations to become more inclusive and by doing so become more effective. Their phenomenal success is testimony to the quality of their work, and their ability to create innovative and much needed services within the D&I industry. I could not be
prouder to support Radius
and its pioneering work.”

Gemma Jones, Chief Operating Officer

Gemma joined Radius Business in 2014. As Chief Operation Officer, Gemma leads on the end-to-end planning and programme management of all workshops, webinars and training sessions; she is central to the day-to-day operation of the business.

“I have over 15 years’ experience implementing successful events, programmes and communications on an international, national and regional level for a wide range of clients across the public and private sector.

I was initially attracted to working for Radius because of  both the flexible working opportunity it provided for me as a working parent and the opportunity to work in a fast paced, dynamic organisation.  I am extremely proud of the business Radius has become –  we make significant changes within organisations who are prepared to invest in their employee networks and ERGs. It is great to be part of a business that is changing the culture of the workplace for the better.”

Tim Macavoy, Head of Online Services

Tim joined the Radius team as Head of Online Services 2017. His diverse career has taken him around the arts, media and technology. Every stage has offered an opportunity to create new and inclusive projects, which has now brought him to develop online engagement at Radius Business.

“I come from a theatre background, which has given me a broad set of skills in communication and collaboration. I brought that experience of speaking directly to an audience to journalism and radio broadcasting, which in turn introduced me to emerging technology, specialising in user experience.

My professional life has taken me from stand up comedy, to producing a radio station and founding LGBT network Intertech, to working for Skype and now Radius Business. My lesson is never to leave an experience behind; that diversity makes you better at what you do.”

Huma Qazi, Lead Consultant

Huma has been involved with Radius Business since 2012. She was formerly Head of HR at BP IST and Eni. Huma has over 20 years of international corporate experience. Working as our Lead Consultant, Huma has designed and facilitates the Radius Employee Network Leadership Programme (ENLP).

“I am passionate about employee network leadership and the power such networks have in connecting people and delivering more inclusive workplaces.

I am familiar with the challenges, as well as the sheer joy, of co-chairing an employee network. There is so much you can drive as a network leader, especially the way you communicate, your visibility and your contribution towards making a real impact when supporting senior leaders, HR and D&I teams.

At BP I witnessed how networks can make a real difference in engaging people. I am driven by my strong belief that Radius and all those we work with truly care about what we do. We have the knowledge and connections to bring together inspiring business professionals and we really listen to what is needed by the industry.

The Employee Network Leadership Programme is testimony to Radius having done just that.”

Sally Ward, Consultant

Sally joined the Radius team in 2017, bringing her expertise on employee networks from working in the Diversity & Inclusion team at BT for over a decade. Sally has in-depth knowledge of the wider benefits of embedding D&I into an organisation’s culture.   She has developed and delivered a variety of interventions to improve the lived experience of diverse groups of people; looking beyond a company’s policies to make sure both the individual and the employer are supported.

“D&I is my passion and I’m particularly interested in the area of people networks – or employee resource groups. At BT, I managed the people networks, creating the current governance structure and election process; increasing the BT family of people networks from four to seven; overseeing the networks evolve to cope with less money, fewer opportunities to meet face to face, while making better use of technology. And all the while celebrating the amazing people who take time out of their busy day jobs as network chairs or committee members.

I’m delighted to be working with Radius as a Consultant and sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over the years with our members and clients.”
